Living in Caccamo


Caccamo is situated on the slopes of Mount San-Calogero which is part of the Madonie Mountain range. The main wealth of the area is generated through Agriculture which provides work for the vast majority of local residents. Given its rural setting most of the local architecture takes the form of old stone cottages and farm houses, built with the stone of the local area.


The most striking building within the town is its ancient Norman Castle built way back in 1100. The castle overlooks the town, standing imperiously above the valley below. The castle was rebuilt During the Baroque period, with its main towers and walls undergoing re-constructed using the white stone which popularized the period. When you enter the castle make for the Sala delle Armi, its ceiling is amazing and needs to be seen to be believed.
